Scottish Politics
Encapsulated on a rubbish bin. Presumably the sticker supporting the strikers was put on there by someone on the left of the political spectrum. Although some SNP supporters recognise their own party's historically weak support for local government, the criticism of the Scottish Government and the red background probably points to a Labour Party supporter. Which is presumably the assumption made by the YES supporter who has placed a sticker over the key word 'mess' in the bottom line. Other pro-strikers stickers on other bins had had the same treatment, or been partially ripped off. Once again the constitution trumps all in Scottish politics, although as it happens the Scottish Government has stepped in with more money, to help resolve the dispute. I remain frustrated by the Labour Party's unionism - it feels like they have a blind spot when it comes to Scottish self-determination, which is odd when they support self determination for other former colonies across the globe. It is hard not to see the relationship between England and Scotland as the unequal relationship of empire and colony, rather than the union of equals it purports to be.
