Backblip
We originally booked the campsite to come and do a 24hr race but after our last efforts decided it was too soon to do so much again and so we pulled out. However, we decided to keep the booking and make up our activities as we went along. Shortly after we had to shorten the stay as Mr Rat was asked to take a funeral but we still had 3 full days.
Today promised to be fairly sunny and not too windy so it was a day for the hills. There are plenty of big ones around but we opted for a walk to the Argyll Stone 850m up which involved a walk beside Loch an Eilean and another loch, a steep climb through open woods onto less steep open hillsides and then typical Cairngorm high level mixture of bare earth/stone and low-growing vegetation, (and mini pine trees at about 750m).
There were good views to Braeriach, especially, and up Glen Einich and also south along the Spey Valley as in the main blip - I liked the layering effect. Extras show the Argyll Stone, Glen Einich and one of the lochs.
There was a less steep descent into the lower parts of Glen Einich and a final stretch through Rothimurchus forest and Loch an Eilean - and icecream at the end.
The guidebook said 9.5miles, it was actually nearer 12 - and we'd taken a more direct way on one section. The sun shone quite a lot but there was a cold wind on the top, and no people for about 9 miles.
