Day 1 of Year 1

Today we took the grandchildren to school and picked them up as it was their first day of Year 1. Last year they were in Reception at the same school and it was lovely that the reception teachers and teaching assistants were there to welcome them and wave to them as they went to their new classrooms( the new reception classes were not starting today). They went in happily and seemed to have had a good day. After giving them tea they read their new books to us. It is amazing that they can now read really well after just a year in school. They have been to the library quite a few times during the holidays and their parents have completed the Borough Reading Challenge with them so that they got special certificates .
I guess the Wibbly Wobbly tooth book is apt for this age group !

After that they put together the little polystyrene aeroplanes, a little reward for their first day back. I think these have been around for years and years. Still only 50p each. I was amused that one of the grandchildren told me they were made in China as she had read this on the packet!
