Base over Apex?

Alice & I first saw this, yonks ago. (Could be decades, so long I can't remember if we'd left Whitehaven {1974} or not.)  We visited Workington periodically, which I don't think we have since moving here {Penrith}.

We used to park on the extinct Railway Stn./Car park and it grew in profusion, like a weed, in cracks in the cracks between sandstones.

We never saw it again until "down country" must have been Cornwall, Devon or I o W where it grew in profusion in virtually every garden down there.

It was, eventually ID-ed as:-
"Erigeron karvinskianus
Mexican fleabane
A perennial forming wide mats to 15cm in height, with narrow, hairy leaves and daisy-type flower-heads 15mm in width, opening white but soon turning pinkish-purple."
This plant will provide nectar and pollen for bees and the many other types of pollinating insects.

Now HERE is where "Base over Apex" appears , ruder terminologies are available.  Ever since we first saw it I presumed they came out pink and aged ----> white.  Seems I've been wrong for decades?  Although these two seem to suggest the white IS younger?

Ignore the extra -
I've Corralled a couple to see if I end up with 2 white or 2 pink OR they escape.
