Canada - Seymour Narrows

Last night it started raining and it got very foggy. We were eating dinner under cover outside on the deck with heaters on and blankets covering us, but it was still chilly. We crossed over into Canada and our clocks went forward by 1 hour.  After supper we all went back to our cabin, which is larger than the boys’ ones, and were surprised to find a gluten and lactose free birthday cake waiting for me. I had been given one at the birthday dinner but as it was a last minute bake it was a normal cake containing gluten, which I could not eat. It was very thoughtful of them make this second cake for me. Everyone enjoyed the cake as pudding before going to bed.

Today is our last day on board, we are cruising the narrowest section of the Inside Passage called Seymour Narrows and the views were expected to be spectacular, with a good chance of seeing whales. Unfortunately it was so foggy we could not see a thing! The fog horn had to keep blasting every 5 minutes or so in some areas as the fog was extremely dense.

We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, our last one where we could relax and sit chatting. This cruise line has boats that are smaller than many other cruise lines, the number of guests on board their boats varies between 100 and about 600 which is considerably smaller than some that have thousands of guests. It does mean with a ‘smaller' boat you have less facilities but with an excellent gym and 8 restaurants, a cafe, a gelateria, and many lounges, we do not feel we are missing out on any amenities. At breakfast we were sitting next to the lovely New Zealand couple we met a few days ago, they too were on the excursion yesterday when the flight was cancelled and they were also furious about the way it was handled. They did the other outing yesterday with Pip and Inca and said how much they enjoyed the girls company. You can meet some lovely like minded people on holiday.

After breakfast we sat in the lounge, I spent some time trying to catch up with reading Blip journals but the wifi is so slow it took me forever to open up one entry. By lunch time the fog finally lifted and wow, what beautiful scenery surrounded us.  The blue skies and green densely wooded islands were such a beautiful sight as we sailed south. This is one of the best areas in the world for large populations of Orca so after lunch we spent hours on deck with binoculars, whale watching, and we were fortunate to have several sightings of Orca pods and even a Humpback. We were so excited to see them, I was running from the front of the boat to the back of the boat following them. The youngsters also spotted sea otters, floating on their backs right near the boat, but I was then walking along the jogging track at the time and missed seeing them.

The temperature has risen and finally as we approach Vancouver we are having lovely weather. Tonight we have to pack and place our bags outside the door for collection, and tomorrow it's an early start as we have to be out the cabins by 8am. After a quick breakfast we depart the boat and transfer to a hotel in Vancouver.

In extras a scene of the fog as it is starting to lift.
