The Bird Man!

Our first night in amazing Yangshuo and Frank took us to meet this guy. He is a Cormorant fisherman, basically fishing with his trusty bird pals.

"Historically, cormorant fishing has taken place in Japan and China since about 960 AD."

Our group were taken out on "The Bird Man's" boat to see how it's done. We watched in awe as his flock of birds flew along side the boat, catching fish in their throats and then regurgitating back on the boat. They were allowed to eat the smaller ones but the fisherman directs the birds back to deck when they have caught a larger one of course.
