Dalkeith Palace Tour

My mum and I went on a walking tour at Dalkeith Palace today, typically it was raining the whole time. We got to go into the old icehouse which is normally locked up and also the basement of the orangery. This image is from the Dark Walk which used to be lined with lime trees. Apparently when the Duchess Anna’s husband the Duke of Monmouth was beheaded she had all the trees cut to the height of her husband - minus his head!
