Moving on

(another back blip from the weeks in hospital)

Had all gone smoothly, we could reasonably have expected to be home by now; but this was the day J was hoisted into her wheelchair, and sat happily there for a couple of hours - she's always more comfortable in her custom moulded seat than anywhere else, and has never been able to maintain a comfortable sitting or reclining position in bed, even when well propped with multiple pillows. The consultants judged her ready to leave the Critical Care Unit, so teatime again saw her bed trundled along corridors and in lifts to a tiny side room in the high dependency unit from which she had come earlier in the week. It was good news, of course, that her condition had improved significantly, and the move took us a step closer to home; but I knew I would miss the one to one staffing, the camp bed in the corner and the access to a shower - though the matron did kindly tell me I could return to use their shower for as long as J remained in hospital.
