Butterfly World
We travelled up to Holly on the Hill yesterday evening, tired but glad to be here.
A good day today. This morning J wanted to just relax. In the sunshine, I had a brief walk through the nearby meadow where I took these shots. A speckled wood on a hazel (it’s looking like a good nut year), a female brimstone feeding on betony (this shot demonstrates the excellent leaf mimicry), and a red admiral taking the sun whilst relaxing on a crab apple tree.
There aren’t many wildflowers remaining, water mint and woundwort seem to be those late to the summer party here. All the more surprising to see three butterfly species ( and there may be more, they were very “flighty”).
