Friday Fringe

Yet another Fringe venue, this time the Assembly Rooms Ballroom, complete with chandeliers.

I was up early for the roofers but a phone call confirmed they were finished and the plasterer is coming on Monday to complete the work.  There was much gloom and doom tis morning as the new gas and electricity costs were announced.  It is beyond belief that while we are standing on the edge on some abyss that our 'leaders' are nowhere to be seen.  A lame duck PM who is taking holidays and 2  **** who are touring the country trying to garner the votes of a group of people who to to stereotype are likely completely out of touch with the real world.  And despite what she keeps saying, Liz Truss is NOT about to be 'elected PM'.  She is hoping to be elected leader of the Conservative party and the the Queen will invite her to form a Government.  Who knows, HM in her twilight years, may buck protocol, do the right thing and ask someone who actually has the ability to lead this country and make the decisions that need to be made to be PM.  Rant over.

After a meeting to plan my next foray to Falkirk I did something uplifting, the Impressionists exhibition at the National Gallery.  It was amazing and I was glad I hired an audio guide.  90 minutes well spent and on till November and highly recommended.

Decided to have lunch at the Contini cafe.  Bad move, not helped by the fact I thought my show was 3.30 and it was 2.30.  Took ages to get food and it wasn't good but they took off the service charge, quite right too as the service was rubbish.  I wish we'd stop the 'optional service charge', tipping nonsense.  Just charge us how much it costs to provide the food, serve it and pay the staff like every other service industry does.  That's another rant.  There was a nice view of the Gardens and Scott Monument though.

Then to the Assembly Rooms for 'Bloody Difficult Women' about Gina Millar and Theresa May.  Very good, though slightly spoiled by the collateral noise from the service area outside.  When I came out it was raining so I went straight home and had an evening in for once.  That meant more 'Offspring' before bed.

I am thinking that blinds in the back may be better than curtains.  The room looks much bigger.  Mmmm, decisions.
