Paralympic Personal Bests

We awoke early to the most unfamiliar sound  of heavy rain which, although  needed, was not really what we wanted today  as we knew we were destined to be spending much of it outdoors.
We had a busy day ahead of us volunteering at the annual Winchester Paralympic Personal Bests event. Over 120 adults with learning disabilities, plus their support workers/carers descended on the Winchester  sports centre where they were  divided into six groups. Each group circulated through six different activities: cricket, rugby, squash, low level circuits, football, athletics,  where they were given a variety of different exercises and skills to practise under the leadership of  professional  coaches.  Here is the  group I assisted with,  doing Tai Chi at the end of a very lively low circuits session.
Fortunately, the rain soon petered out, and we were able to get outdoors, and  stay dry,  for three activities.
At the end of the day, each participant  gets a certificate and  medal, and there are special awards for those who have made the most progress, or  made most effort in each activity.
This was the tenth year of the  event and (despite being exhausting!)  is so greatly enjoyed by everyone,  I am sure we  are all already looking forward to next year.
