Peas please

In class yesterday we talked (amongst other things) about what everyone eats for breakfast...one of my students tried to tell me that Brits eat peas, her friend assumed she was getting beans and peas mixed up, but no, she was adamant that when she was in Cambridge (or maybe it was Canterbury...) decades ago, she had "grüne Erbsen" (green peas) for breakfast, so tell me, have any of you ever had peas for breakfast?
