Plant counting

A day spent at Frampton Marsh RSPB reserve counting and mapping the nationally important population of Slender Hare's-ear, a tiny plant that grows in cattle-trampled turf at the base of south-facing sea banks. After a back-breaking, knee-bruising eight hours we had counted approximately 7000 of these cryptic plants (see extra) over roughly 2.5 km of bank.

But during our day we also saw:
- a sea of cheerful Sunflowers
- a lone Barnacle Goose
- a whole flock of distant Spoonbills
- two WW2 pillboxes
- and the bank of The Haven, with its silvery fringe of sweetly scented Sea Wormwood matching the silvery water.

By the time we trudged back to the car my legs and back were certainly feeling the strain!.
