Last safety check before setting off.
J was in charge of today's activities (as usual) and she decided we should visit the isle of Raasay. She and G are great cyclist and as there are very few cars on the island, she decided we would hire bikes to explore the relatively small island. When driving onto Skye, Raasay is easily recognised to the west, by the two smallish table tops on top of one of the mountains (extra 1). As you can see the weather hasn't really improved. Ja. and I didn't do the bike ride as he fell off his bike three years ago and has refused to cycle since and the bikes were too heavy for me. Instead he and I did a slightly hilly walk to the Pictish stone (extra 2) thought to have been carved between 650 and 700. Further info about the stone can be found on Google. After our walk to the Pictish stone, we had coffee and cake in Raasay Hotel. in fact it was just as well that we didn't cycle as the road wasn't tarmacked?? and was full of gravel and ruts and was extremely hilly. Shortly after our picnic lunch, we all went to visit an artist's studio (J loves art) and later while walking, had excellent views across to the south of Skye, including what I believe to be the Cuillins (extra 3), which are thought to be the most challenging mountain range in the UK
