Textiles bearing witness
Here’s a powerful piece from What Lies Beneath an exhibition at Murray Edwards college in Cambridge. As you’ll see from the extra it was made to remember the Chilean disappeared during the vile Pinochet regime in the latter decades of the 20th century. Remember how Thatcher welcomed Pinochet to the UK? His motorcade in Cambridge attracted much protest as it no doubt did in other UK cities. The work of the activist collective Memorarte helps keep alive the memory of lost relatives and friends in the face of a murderous dictatorship.
