Well done Mr C
DFDS ferries don’t have the luxury of North Sea Ferries - no tea-making facilities in the cabin. Nor was there a complimentary dog treat.
We decided not to risk the crowded restaurant for an evening meal last night, instead opting for a picnic of MS treats in the cabin. We had an early night - I slept some of the time and listened to an A S Byatt podcast for several hours, on and off. Unfortunately I got up with a bad back. I can do exercises later but basically I can’t stand straight!
We were up early enough to get a good value breakfast before the the restaurant got busy - the ferry was packed with mainly NL and D vehicles returning from UK, most likely Scotland, as this is a great ferry from the north. There used to be one going to Bergen but that’s long gone.
We were so tightly parked with inches to spare between us and a huge lorry, but Mr C got us out and off the ferry with no mishaps. The good thing was we were about fifth vehicle off, and after getting the passports stamped were on our way. (No check of Covid passes so carefully downloaded).
The route to Germany was straightforward - we had downloaded Google Maps to save data and that worked well. The roads are great - there’s been no rattles and squeaks coming from the van which we get in UK. But they are VERY busy with lots of lorries and roadworks.
After 4 hours boiling, with windows down to get air and resulting traffic noise, I discovered a button with a snowflake on it. Yes, we have working aircon which of course we’ve never needed to discover in the Hebrides and Northern Isles.
We stopped for a Lidl shop (food prices seem cheaper than UK) as we weren’t allowed to bring dairy into EU. Now camped on a lovely wooded site with lots of shade, wifi and hook up for €26. Only 5 mins to Autobahn 1 the motorway to Hamburg and on to Puttgarten ferry to Denmark. 300 miles today in 6 hours as we stuck to 90-100kmph to be sensible with fuel.
Hopefully Sweden tomorrow then the holiday really begins.
