Swans and old age

Got attacked by a cygnet this afternoon while walking around Airthrey loch. ( see video ).

I suspect he had already learnt to associate humans with food rather than a vicious attack. Anyway it was a surprise.

Earlier I met some old friends in the supermarket whom I had not seen since pre Covid days when we all belonged to the same fitness class.

How were they keeping ? I ask. She tells me. Her husbnad has dementia and she has a myriad of health problems.

Then she adds.
“ We are the lucky  ones,”
Lucky?

“ Yes we have a roof over our heads, no financial worries and we are still able to look after each other.”
She adds: " We have everything except our health."
Yet she is  smiling ,happy and optimistic.

For her the cup is half full, a woman  determined to make the best of what remains of both of their lives.

Meeting them both was a salutary experience. As Bette Davis said: “ growing old is not for sissies.”.
