Transit of Venus 1639

Jeremiah Horrocks observed and made the first recording of the transit of Venus across the face of the Sun. He was a northern lad and essentially a self-taught genius. This is from a book I am currently reading, The Transit of Venus : The Quest to Find the True Distance of the Sun.
