Thistles? No problem!
Our daughter brought our little grand-daughter over again today. After playing in empty boxes, she joined me weeding in the garden. She was genuinely helpful in terms of recognising the task in hand and working with me on pulling up weeds, carrying them up the garden, and adding them to the compost heap. Rather than miss out on handling thistles, she learnt what to do to carry them safely. She is the most companionable co-gardener!
Earlier I found her 'helping' with the boxes - in the nick of time as we discussed the difference between 'stable' and 'wobbly'. She does love climbing though (see Extra).
When she walked into our kitchen today, she looked around and declared "This house is unusual!" As far as I know, that is an original observation, but she is spot on! But we're beginning to think we like it...

PS Posting this on the right day. Please don't miss my backblipped apple tree!
