Ullswater

Friday 12 August

Today we were spending a last day in the Lakes before returning to Janet and John’s this evening. Peter and Judy were staying on an extra night. Unfortunately Peter had a disturbed night with an upset stomach, and was still feeling a little unsettled this morning, so it was just thee of us for breakfast. Judy isn’t up to doing too much walking at the moment as she has a dodgy knee, and they felt they didn’t want to hold us back, so we went off in our own. Our first thought was to walk around Grasmere and Rydal Water, but once again we couldn’t find parking, so we continued to Ullswater, and managed to find parking in Glenridding. From there we walked to Patterdale and continued along a path along the east shore of Ullswater. It was a really hot day, and the lake was a very popular place to be - pleasure steamers, rowing boats, canoes kayaks and paddle boarders. Our hike afforded us some wonderful views over the lake and surrounding hills. For dinner, before returning to Appleton, we went to a country pub we had stayed at a few years ago, and had excellent food. Unfortunately they must have changed management, and now it was just regular pub food - we were rather disappointed!
When we got back, Janet and John were back from their holiday, so we exchanged holiday news before going to bed.
