a lifetime burning

Bird in the bush

A little willow warbler, hiding in a low tree where he didn't think I could see him.  Its a very similar looking bird to the Chiffchaff.  If you don't hear its lovely song then they're not that easy to tell apart.  The Willow Warbler has a yellower stripe over its eye and a slightly flatter head.  It also also has paler brown legs than the ChiffChaff whose legs can look almost black.

I managed to see a Hobby over the Somerset Levels, but it was too far away to make a decent shot.  I did get enough of a picture to be sure that it really was a Hobby though.  I don't think I've actually seen a Hobby before which is a bird of prey that is somewhat like a smaller peregrine falcon so that was a bit of a first.  With the year drawing on I don't expect I'll get to see another this year, but you never know :-)
