Historic Arrowtown
During the gold rush in Arrowtown, the core of economic activity was in Buckingham St (pictured here). The original general store was built in 1862 but replaced by a stone store in 1872. Long after the gold miners left, it remained as a grocery store until 1999. Now it is one of Arrowtown's many heritage-listed buildings from the gold mining era and functions as a pharmacy (on the right ).
In extras is the Police Camp Cottage. Constructed of pit-sawn red beech in 1863, it is Arrowtown's oldest surviving timber building.
