Gunby Hall

Today we visited Gunby Hall a National Trust property in Lincolnshire.  It was interesting to read about the Massingberd faniily who bought the property in 1700 and in particular Emily Massingberd who was a tee total political activist who campaigned for women’s rights and dressed like a man.  She founded the Pioneer Club in 1892 which was an institution for women who were identified by number rather than name to ensure equality for all.

The Massingberd family gave the property to the National Trust in 1944 but stayed as tenants until the last of the family died in 1963.

We’re staying overnight near Louth and plan to see a little more of the Lincolnshire Wolds tomorrow.
