In memory of Michael Collins
Just back from an epic day out, out east. Jim invited me to come and inspect two wells at Courtmacsherry and to give my opinion as to their holiness. The first was in the encouragingly named Wet Lane but I think it was just a community well and the second was deep in the woods, probably once connected to a big house. The walk was beautiful and the scenery stunning and as we were returning a man went by in a dry robe enroute for a swim. We exchanged pleasantries and as he went by Himself said: was that Micháel? It was indeed Michaél Martin, our Taoiseach (PM) who has a holiday home down here and I suspect was having a relaxing dip before officiating at the many ceremonies connected with the 100th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins. We were reminded of this when we stopped off in Clonakilty on the way home and the town was in full pageant. People were in period costumes, there were vintage cars, brass bands and this group of school children playing traditional music rather well - that's the man himself on the mural. I cannot begin to explain about Michael Collins but this is a very big weekend for the country.
I also popped in to pay my respects at Lady's Well in Timoleague where Mary, Mary and Kathleen were taking the water and saying the Rosary. The chat was mighty and two revealed to having seen the blessed eel.
