Change

A very different sort of day. Up early to catch up on reading papers for a Board committee (I’m out of the habit of doing this!) and then had the meeting which went fine. Soon as it was done I dashed off to collect CMB and we drove up to Perthshire. We were heading to Karelia House craft shop and cafe near Aberfeldy and enjoyed carrot cake and a browse. The longer we stayed the more we discovered and they had a good sale on. I ended up being super chunky yarn to make a cable patterned throw….maybe A&N will need a housewarming present one day!
CMB bought some red yarn for a cosy looking jumper then we drove into Aberfeldy for a wander and some delicious Cajun tomato soup in the Watermill cafe (slightly wrong order of eating today but the craft place didn’t have anything savoury!). We talked non stop all day of course and I can’t remember everything but in the cafe we were weighing up the various benefits of different forms of diaries/planners and what would work best for my new life. Later on we covered Hollywood adventures, plans for Washington and Boston next year, our addictions to trash TV, fainting, relationship dynamics, house buying, Frederick Douglass and so much more!
Stopped again at St Mary’s church in Grandtully to surprise her with the beautifully painted ceiling (extra) and then at the Hermitage for a walk through the woods. Beautiful to have sun slanting through the trees and sparkling on the water. We were so lucky to avoid the occasional showers all day and were in sun throughout. As we came up to Ossian’s Hall I let her go in first to surprise her with the waterfall. There was a flautist playing in the hall so it was all a bit magical, with rose petals on the floor where there had been a wedding earlier in the afternoon,
Stopped again in Dunkeld for a wander around and saw some of the huge old trees behind the cathedral. Apparently Frederick Douglass had visited Dunkeld (somewhat bizarrely!) and we talked about trees that would have been large even when he visited back in the mid 19th Century.
Got home about 7pm and made a quick supper of leftovers to clear the fridge.
A&N had not liked the house in Musselburgh last night but are going to see a little cottage down near Peebles tomorrow. In the meantime they’re worrying about their cat who doesn’t seem well….she’s lost weight and is stumbling around a bit and off her food (very unusual for her). Doesn’t bode well……she’s 19 mind you (extra at the vet today…looking grumpy!)
