Macclesfield museum

It’s in the park that I walked through today. We had a talk at the W.I. on Monday about the woman who founded it. She was the daughter of a silk mill owner, the Brocklehurst family. She travelled extensively in Egypt with another woman. Clearly they were an item but couldn’t say so in those days. She met a lot of opposition about the museum from the Victorian men on the planning committee. The building is now not suitable to house the exhibits due to damp etc so they’ve been moved to the Silk Museum. My sister and I used to love going to the museum when we were children. I remember a mummy, a giant panda and a shrunken head amongst other things.
