The first step of returning to work today with my annual health check-up. It's a little bit later than usual this year, so this is the first time I have seen the Elvis Presley statue in front of the building where I have my check-up garlanded with flowers placed there by Elvis fans commemorating his death on August 16th, 1977.

Just as Elvis' legacy continues to bring joy to his legion of fans, so do the characters created by the mighty Gene Roddenberry. Only two day ago I finished a Star Trek marathon by watching one Star Trek movie each evening for thirteen days. The original crew - Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, Scotty - and the next generation - Picard, Riker, Data, LaForge, Worf, Troi - these characters are so precious to me and millions of others that they are almost like family who taught me many valuable lessons about compassion, integrity, duty, honour and moral courage. And the stories continue through series such as Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Discovery and Strange New Worlds.
