Skimmia japonica

A fine day after some early rain. We planted a Senecio at the top of the field in a space near the rhododendron, which was planted at the end of February. Inevitably there were more bramble roots to extract, made all the more difficult because the soil here was almost solid clay. Getting it out of the pot where it had been growing for the past year or more wasn't easy either. They do like the salty sea air here - hope it's happy enough in clay!

Yet another late blip-search found the tiny Skimmia flowers emerging, taken with the digital macro on the little Ixus. It's an attractive plant throughout the year and particularly now that it is in flower, but we've never examined it this closely before - thanks, blipfoto!
