Sgwarnog: In the Field

14yo had requested a trip out on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. It was a surprise to realise it had been seven years since our last visit.

We started by going the length of the line from Keighley to Oxenhope, with diesel unit M511189/Sc51803 pulling us along.

At Oxenhope we toured the exhibition shed. Understandably there is a lot of focus on the recent The Railway Children Return film in the interpretation and they are planning some special themed events in the near future.

From Oxenhope we walked through the meadows and woods back down the line to Haworth, picknicking half way. A couple of Wall and Small Copper butterflies joined us along the way.

We don’t often get to Haworth, so we walked up the hill and had a mooch around town and had a tea shop stop before heading back down to the station for the return to Keighley. Taff Valley Railway loco number 85 pulled us on this part of the journey.

Today’s image shows the token system being used at the Damems Loop signal box, as viewed on our outward journey. The driver of #85 is passing a token to show that the single track is now clear for our train to proceed.

A good day out, and we probably shouldn’t leave it seven years for our next visit.
