Our Day
A slow start this morning, the weather dull and still cold, put on warmer clothes this time as the sun didn't look like it was going to shine.
The morning and lunch was spent at Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens not very tropical today! the Rhododendrons were in full flower but the trees are only just starting to producing spring leaves.
We drove to Chideock to catch up with my brother but he was not home so poked about the village until he came back.
After which I drove along narrow lanes and down through the Marshwood Vale, beautiful old Oak trees strewn the country side sticking up out of hedgerows, and lots of ewes and lambs are grazing.
The hedge rows, fields and grave yards are covered in Primroses, very pretty.
We also came across Cuckoo Flowers a pretty pale pink multi flower growing on the side of the roads, and at the time the Cuckoo arrives,it quite often has white spit on it put there by an insect.
We called in to see friends but they were out so back to Bridport via Symondsbury down narrow lanes with high sided banks, stopping to catch a few snaps on the way, including the Main Street.
Quite hungry by now so stopped at Winterbourne Abbas at an old pub The Coach and Horses where they served a carvery.
Yesterday we spied a Rookery but it was too cold and wet to stop, so managed to take it tonight, the Rooks nest in the tops of the tree and are clearly seen with the bare branches. They are very rowdy!
Most of the Rooks have been got rid of in NZ.
