Seed

Another very hot day, so it was an early start to Stamford to meet up with KP and do more Walkshop planning. We started by looking at two alternative routes for Walkshops planned for the catchments of St George's and Malcolm Sargent schools, both of which were okay but not very inspiring.

We then retreated to a shady spot on a triangle of land in the northern part of the Malcolm Sargent catchment, which remains our preferred location for this Walkshop, having wonderful trees, lichens and a good variety of wildflowers, as well as plenty of treasures that can be used for the project, such as this Sycamore seed. 

I'd brought along oil pastels and we spent a pleasant hour or so experimenting with ideas for the art component of the Walkshops. By 11 a.m. it was becoming unbearably hot, and although we didn't feel we'd quite nailed it, we felt we'd much as much progress as we could, so headed home. 

I spent much of the rest of the day sitting inside at the computer with the curtains closed, sipping cool drinks...something which seems to be becoming a regular occurrence in this extraordinary summer. Part of that time was spent cancelling two events I was supposed to be leading at the weekend - temperatures of 33C and a predominantly older clientele don't really mix, and I also felt that attendees wouldn't be seeing the wildlife of Collyweston NR at its best, so we'll re-arrange that walk for June 2023.
