The Mathematical River, Union Canal
The Edinburgh Art Festival is displaying works along the Union Canal to mark its 200th anniversary this year. This sign installation at the Leamington Lift Bridge is by Maeve Redmond. She says the title of the work "pays homage to the engineers who designed, and the navvies who constructed the canal. They created a constant and level route for the canal between Edinburgh and Falkirk, navigating 73 metres of natural contour, avoiding the need for locks. " Apprarently it was known locally as "the mathematical river"!
