Sgwarnog: In the Field

Fused

The small area of fused coal spoil (clinker) at the top of the moor is usually a good spot for butterflies. Today’s visit brought its reward with the most Wall that I’ve ever seen in one place (eight) and plenty of Small Heath (main image). Elsewhere on the moor: Meadow Brown, Small Copper and Small Skipper.

I checked out the nearby ponds for dragonflies, but found them nearly dry and accidentally flushed a couple of Snipe.

Later, I went down to Valley Parade for City’s second home game of the season. A comfortable 2-0 win over Newport County ensued.
