George is checking out the back yard where we lost a huge branch of a Manchurian Pear.  A word to the wary - never ever plant a Manchurian pear.  Not only do they grow nasty spiny suckers, but they lose massive branches at regular intervals.  We'd have it taken out, but it's planted in a very awkward spot and would cost a fortune to remove.
