Ullswater
Advanced logistics planning after work meant that C and I were picked up from work by P who had bravely faced gridlocked roads around Penrith. We went through to Pooley Bridge to pick up my friend R from London who had bravely gone up Cross Fell and also tackled the roads. P dropped us off at the swim spot and then went back to Pooley to park and offload his bike to cycle back to join us.
We swam and it was gorgeous and then enjoyed the supper that P had prepared and bought along for us (we are enjoying the benefits of his retirement and willingness to make supper for the workers!).
He then cycled back so that he could come and pick us up again.
R then drove me back to my car which I’d left at work and we headed back to mine for coffee before he made his way back to his next stop at Langwathby.
The people we had seen camping there on Wednesday day were packing up and left 3 large black sacks of rubbish in the middle of the beach to be picked up by some mystery rubbish collection service that they presumably thought would magically know it was there and would whisk it away for them. Another chap left a fire burning saying ‘he would leave it for us’ even though we had said we didn’t want it and it’s quite hot enough as it is. He clearly couldn’t be bothered to put it out responsibly himself.
