Tragedy

This afternoon Mr. Beewatcher was sitting reading in a shady part of the garden, when he suddenly smelled smoke - not like a barbecue, more like a bonfire.
As he came in to tell me about it, I could smell it too, and opened the front door to see neighbours coming from all directions.
Just opposite the entrance to our close, a tree had caught fire, and almost immediately the flames spread to a house.
Thank goodness nobody was home, and the fire brigade arrived really quickly. By then the house was well alight, and now half of the roof has gone. I was worried it would spread to the pair of houses beside it, as a disabled person lives in one of them, but the firefighters managed to stop that happening.
Now, two hours later, fire engines are still here and our close is blocked off, but it could have been much worse. I’m proud of the way neighbours ran to help, and so thankful nobody was hurt.
