Small Places

I have never really explored Fife although I live just to the north, in Perth. Since moving to Scotland over 20 years ago Mrs P and I have been drawn to the more dramatic beauty of Perthshire. Beyond the delights of the Fife coast, and a few specific places, I don't know much of the more subtle beauty of the Fife countryside.

Today we walked from Cupar (in Fife, not to be confused with Coupar Angus) via Scotstarvit and Hill of Tarvit to Ceres. The return was by the more direct Moor Road, now a good track.

It was a good sunny day, and the views from Hill of Tarvit were delightful. There is an NTS property there too, the Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse, but we didn't have time to go inside. However we did go into the Ceres Folk Museum; it's small but well worth a visit.

This is Scotstarvit Tower, probably built in the 15th century and remodelled in the 16th. It was the home of Sir John Scot, author of Scot of Scotstarvit's Staggering State of the Scots Statesmen.
