Doggone hot days

Along the Slipper Mill Pond near my home the water is bordered in the main by reeds and grasses as well as wild dog roses.  Today I thought it wouldn't be possible to still see a dog rose given the heat of the past few weeks and that only the seed apples would be there. But I found this one braving it out and thought it still looked rather lovely in the sun.

When walking this week in the fields, alongside the harvesting of the wheat and barley, it was interesting to see just how many wild flowers there still are to be found in spite of the dry hot conditions. I would say, however, by the end of August they will probably have decided to call it a day. Thanks Miranda for hosting the wild flower week, as ever.
