St Lawrence Food Market
The boys had given me a list of clothes they wanted me to look out for whilst away - trendy teenager shops which we don't have here in Oxford and where the clothes are much cheaper in North America. So I tracked down a Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch to find they are simple not designed for people with ageing eyesight.... dark shops full of trendy young things, and I found myself for the first time in my life having to ask someone younger to read the price tag for me.
Bargain clothes packed away I went off to explore the delights of Toronto past the shopping mall..... St Lawrence market has to be the highlight. It's not that dissimilar to Oxford's own delightful Covered Market , although it seems to be thriving more than our one, which has been struggling to cope with rent rises squeezing out independent retailers.
Toronto appears to be largely under construction - huge New York-style towers, and endless condos down by the beautiful harbour. Prices are sky-high right now, but as Canada appears about 2 years behind us in the financial crisis stakes I do have to wonder how many of the condos will be sold by this time next year.
And my afternoon finished off with more virtual mothering as I heard that Tom's crew got the bronze medal for the Upper Thames region in their big race today despite the rudder jamming in the first heat. Proud of him, and a little sad that I wasn't there.
