Following his harem across the road

The route I chose for today's jog is the shortest, and often there's not a lot to see. However, today I had to pause while a number of hens (eight, I think) were crossing the road in front of me. Then I noticed the rooster coming up the last part of a driveway onto the road to cross over in his turn. While some of the hens were sounding alarmed (to a human), the rooster's almost chirrupping call seemed soothing and encouraging. There was more running by the hens as the rooster almost sauntered over after them all.

These birds did not look like they are feral. There is probably somewhere on one side of the road or the other, where they have somewhere with food supplied.
