Ynys Gorad Goch

You may well be relieved to see that today’s blip is not yet another sunset - but thanks so much for your kind response to yesterday’s ‘Desert Sea’.

Instead, I’m blipping a house - well, technically a house and a smokehouse - on an island in the Menai Straits. This, of course, is in line with the Wide Wednesday challenge for this week.

Situated in the area of the Straits known as The Swellies - an area of swirling currents and whirlpools - it was once the site of fish traps and the name itself means ‘Red Weir Island’.  Today the tide is fairly low, but I’ve photographed it previously when the rushing waters of high tide looked perilously close to overcoming the whole island - there’s a photo of such an event in the wiki link below.

Between two bridges, and with the backdrop of Eryri - the Snowdon range, scenically this is idyllic - though I realise purists may prefer this scene without the electricity pylons!

Thanks to Bobsblips for hosting!
