Flossmo

Morning screening

This morning Mr Flossmo and I took ourselves off to The Maltings in Farnham for the 11am screening of the film Benediction. Although going to the movies in the morning feels a bit odd, it is really rather civilised.

If you haven't seen it, the film is essentially a biographical portrayal of the life of Siegfried Sassoon. It looks at his experiences during and after WW1, his many same sex relationships, his subsequent marriage and his final years. Much of the film is punctuated with original black and white footage from the war as well as recitations of his poetry. We both enjoyed it - the cinematography was excellent and the script very clever. Our only criticism was that it was a little too long (2h 20m), made worse by the hard seats in The Maltings.

After it had finished we took our sore bottoms to The Maltings cafe for a quick bowl of chicken Caesar salad before our parking ticket ran out. The food was very good. Back home we hid indoors until the temperature dropped enough for a quick water of the garden.

Overall, the heat has been tolerable today except for this evening when I had to do some cooking. Only cold food now until the beginning of next week, I think.
