Walking from Hope to Castleton and back

For the first time in a long time, I managed to join a 'women's walk' that a friend of mine organises every month.  She'd adapted the originally planned route to take the heat into account, and so we stayed in the bottom of the valley, where there's shade (and no steep climbs).  Hats on, sun cream at the ready.

There were 10 of us, some of us known to each other and some not. So there was lots of scope for interesting chats as we ambled - and ambling was definitely the word, as the temperature climbed into the upper 20s.
On the way out of Castleton on an old footpath, we passed this mill - 18th century in origin, and Grade II listed (not that this has prevented it slipping towards total dereliction). It's called Spital Buildings, and seems to have been a water-powered cotton mill originally. As I browsed online to find out more, when I was back home,  I also found a planning application for renovation and conversion to residential use. So perhaps it will be rescued after all?
