Saturn

Although the image is not much to look at, it took a lot of acquiring! I didn't get to bed until 3am this morning having wanted to capture this for today's blip. First of all I couldn't even find it through the scope at the higher magnification I had hoped to use (hence the small image!), then the seeing was appalling, the atmospheric turbulence was making the planet jump and wobble about so much I had trouble focusing, then I started to freeze so decided at that point to call it a night (morning!?).
So here we are, after about an hours worth of processing and tweaking - Saturn!
Saturn is about ten times the diameter of Earth, tomorrow night it is at opposition, meaning that the Earth lies directly between it and the Sun. Saturn will then be approximately 794 million miles away from us. Given that, I am pleased to get any kind of image frankly!
