Restoration..
I’m late again so will keep this brief!
We met Little Sis and hubby at Copped Hall, Epping, for an Open Garden afternoon. The volunteer gardening team have done an amazing job this summer and the extensive flower gardens, greenhouses and topiary avenues looked wonderful even in the heat of this summer.
The house was built in 1753 for the Conyers family. During its last ownership in 1917 there was a massive fire. The house was burnt out with just a shell remaining. In 1993 the Copped House Trust was formed and the 24 acres of gardens was “saved for the purposes of education, culture and recreation.”
Lots of restoration will take many years of hard skilled work. The gates in my photo into one area of the garden are undergoing huge restoration and the wall itself, is being rebuilt brick by brick. Fascinating work and an example of true dedication and skill!
Already being the other side of the Blackwall Tunnel, we visited our Finchley family. So a lovely end to a beautiful day. We’d gone straight from church and got home at 11pm. That’s why I’m late here …zzzz
