Lost in the woods

Old photographs show groups of village women doing their washing in rivers. Bospolín was a hamlet without running water, so the wash-place was down the hill on the road to Santolaya. It will have been a 10 or 15 minute walk for those furthest from it, on what was probably a donkey track down a steep hill through woodlands. After the washing they had to get back up the same hill, carying a load of, presumably, wet and heavy washing.
The road is now a road and the hamlet has piped water. The small ruined structure in this photo is all that remains of what was once the wash-house - reclaimed by nature. Just a record of how people used to live
