A Mystery
Looking out of the window at our table in an excellent restaurant in Badajoz - La Esquina, 10 out of 10 for service, food, and value. We ordered way too much food, which the waiter offered to pack up for us - dinner tomorrow sorted.
And now a mystery we still haven't solved... ever since we came to Portugal, the Portuguese have assured us that Spanish food is awful. Not our experience at all, so how to explain it?
Today we had four raciones (we thought they'd be snack size, but each one was huge):
- a board of grilled vegetables - potatoes, carrots, leeks, red and green peppers, tomatoes and aubergines
- battered small squid with salad
- veal croquettes with chips
- Wagyu beef in slices, with potatoes
The last two, after a taste, we brought home.
All this, with two beers, a large glass bottle of water, one glass of red wine, and two coffees came to just over €40! Oh, and a plate of good olives, and some eggs with peppers to accompany the beers.
Gratefuls:
- getting everything we went to Spain to get
- escaping the (awful) heat for a few hours, in the restaurant, shops, and the shopping centre
- being able to "go abroad" so easily; it really does feel quite foreign
