The Vatican
The Vatican wireless was a source of information for Lorna when she was writing her Diary of the war. We know this from two of her diary entries:
1. 29th January 1940 - in which she writes that '18,000 of the most influential people in Poland - doctors, professors, priests, leaders, intellectuals of all sorts - have been murdered' by the Germans, and then reflects on the fate of her own family members and friends should the enemy invade Britain.
2. 15th March 1940 - in which she expresses the view that the Vatican is a reliable source of information.
Both these entries feature in Episode 4 of our audio version of the Diary of the war, in which Lorna is played by her great-great niece actress Bethany Ray.
Today's picture was supplied by blipper LauraMuir - thank you!
This is just one of dozens of locations from the war diary for us to map, as can be seen in our blip of 1st August 2022. If you are able to supply a photograph, (or more than one), we'd love to hear from you. Please let us know the location(s) that you could cover by emailing Hazel at h.hall@napier.ac.uk. Many thanks.
