Moscow,Egypt and the Walls of Jericho
Yes we made it!
8 miles, uphill and down dale. Lots of very awkward stiles, and paths. Even some boggy parts despite the dry weather, but we did get to Moscow, Egypt and the Walls of Jericho.
These are all hamlets near the village of Thornton, Bradford.
Egypt was named they think in commemoration of Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt in 1798.
The Walls of Jericho was the nickname given to the very high walls built to hold back waste rock from the quarry. Most of it demolished in early 1980s because they were unsafe.
The top photo is of the Pudsey Ramblers walking down the narrow path to Egypt.
Bottom left what is left if the Walls of Jericho. Bottom right the cottages which make up Moscow.
One of the most interesting walks we have done. It was such a fabulous clear day we could see Ingleborough in the distance. ( see extra)
The other extra collage is made up of some interesting photos taken when walking through Thornton village, including the ruins of the Bronte Bell Chapel where Patrick Bronte preached 1815 - 1820.
The little house where Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne Bronte we’re born.
A very unusual four story quirky house named Coffin End as it is shaped like a coffin. Used to be a pub called the Starr Inn back in the 1800s.
View of Thornton with Bradford, and Lister’s Mill chimney in the distance.
