Guericke’s Hemispheres

In the 17th century, the old German town of Magdeburg’s mayor Otto von Guericke carried out his famous physical experiment to demonstrate there is no horror vacui. Among many other sculptures to be found in the recent city, these two sets of hemispheres caught my attention, and I stitched two blips together to one. The upper right half carries von Guericke’s portrait. - Two extras show details of the medieval dome.
